Meet Megan Wolf and boyfriend Mubdi Rahman (above) Guests at Chanters Lodge in March 2015 and also guests on the most recent edition of the Chanters Lodge Experience with the Milli Jam Ingredient featuring Jay Hillz, our weekly local radio show airing from 20.30 - 21.30 hrs live every Sunday night on Zambezi 94.1 fm. Megan is American, Mubdi Canadian, with roots in Bangladesh. "Have you been watching Bangladesh in the Cricket World Cup?" I wondered. "Ice hockey's my game!" Replied Mubdi.
Megan told listeners that she is in the middle of an eighteen month contract working in Lusaka with The Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ), a non-profit organisation founded in 2001 and one of Zambia’s largest NGOs employing almost 700 Zambians who support health services in more than 423 clinics and hospitals in 31 districts over 5 Provinces. Megan's job involves the fight against HIV Aids and also a lot of travel, she had already visited Rwanda and Malawi in the course of her job. She said she was enjoying life in Zambia.
Mubdi explained that he was on a visit to see Megan and to see something of Zambia as well, including of course Victoria Falls. He and Megan had met at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore USA, he being a researcher in astronomy and physics, she pursuing a masters in public health following a degree in international relations. "Would you like to go to the moon?" Milli Jam asked Mubdi. "Everyone's gone to the moon" I chipped in, remembering a 60's recording of that name by Peter & Gordon! Mubdi said he thought he might not make it but loved his research into space and the stars.
The music on the show was good. We opened with The Disciples back to back with Kelly Clarkson. The guys dropped tracks from Fetty Wap, Edma, Luvbug and Jay Rox. Our oldie of the week was Too Shy by Kajagoogoo but no-one won the prize we give each week to the first listener to tell us the name of the artist on the track. Our pick of the week was a new track from Rihanna and we closed with Axwell and Ingrosso.
This seemingly serious minded couple told us that they had a great day out in Chobe, Botswana that very day and had managed to see loads of game but unfortunately no big cats. They had loved the stunning Victoria Falls and were looking forward to a gorge walk the following day, before returning to Lusaka by coach the day after that. Both said that they had a broad taste in music and that what they listened to mostly depended on what they were doing and their mood. We were happy that despite ice hockey and Toronto Maple Leafs being his main sporting interest, he had been an Arsenal fan since 2007/2008.
Asked where they would like to be and what they would like to be doing 10 years from now, Mubdi said he would like to be in Canada deeply involved in new discoveries in space and enjoying new adventures. Megan wanted still to be doing good in the world of public health. "Together?" We wondered. Mubdi let out a huge roar of laughter and Megan giggled......enough said!
